High Altitude Classic – April 22

RESULTSHigh Altitude Classic 2012 Results

Note from Mark ‘n Matt:
Sunday April 22, 2012 was an exceptionally special Earth Day.  After a 5 year hiatus, XC Mountain Bike racing returned to one of the best trails in New Mexico!
We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to all the racers, sponsors, volunteers, coordinators and the Village of Cloudcroft for a successful return of the High Altitude Classic.
Not only did over 140+ XC Mountain Bike competitors race a tough course at 9000ft in elevation, together we raised $970 in T-Shirt sales directly benefiting the American Cancer Society.  (A special cancer survivor pitched in the extra $30 to make our total contribution for cancer programs, research and advocacy $1000.)
We want to extend one more thank you to our valued sponsors and partners:
  • Major Sponsors:
    • High Altitude
    • Kane Law Firm
    • Stan’s NoTubes Endurance Racing Team
  • Key Sponsors
    • Perea’s Tijuana Bar Restaurant
    • Purace Digital
    • High Desert Brewery
    • Summit Inn
  • Race Series:  New Mexico Off-Road Racing Series
Congratulations to Junior racer Fernanda Polanco for winning the Stan’s NoTubes ZTR Crest 29er wheelset, donated by the Stan’s NoTubes Endurance Racing Team!
Up next in the NMORS Series (www.nmors.org), La Tierra Torture in Santa Fe, NM.  http://www.latierratorture.com/
If you have pictures, kind words, comments or suggestions you would like to share, please email highaltitudeclassic@gmail.com.  Thanks again to everyone who enjoyed their weekend on the bike beautiful Cloudcroft!  We’ll see you next year!
Cheers,
Mark Castelo

Below is a summary of the 2011 NMORS and USAC-NM MTB State Champions.  (Let me know if something doesn’t look right).

Also below is information on the awards meeting this weekend.

Winners get a jersey for the NMORS championship and a medal for the USAC championship.

If you can’t make the awards meeting, we can ship these to you.  We just need a preferred jersey size and shipping address.

Congratulations!

All,

There are two things happening Nov 12, besides the cyclocross event that is.  At 5:00 pm the NMBRA annual meeting will take place, followed at 7:00 pm by the road and off-road series awards party.  These events will take place at 1309 Arizona St NE.

The NMBRA annual meeting will consist of representatives from each NM/El Paso team and the NMBRA Board of Directors.  Steve will release the agenda soon, but this meeting will deal with election of officers, a financial report, review of NMBRA membership and obligations of members, the NMBRA race surcharge, the race kit and a few issues around the road series and state championship events.  Every USA Cycling club or promoter should have a representative at this meeting.

Steve and I need NMBRA annual meeting attendees to RSVP right away.  e-mail me directly bikefunsafe@gmail.com

If you come to the NMBRA meeting but don’t RSVP by Monday November 7 at 5:00pm, then don’t blame me if you don’t have a chair!

The NMBRA awards party will give out jerseys for off-road and road championship winners.  Road series second and third place peeps will also receive swag.  Please come accept your award or arrange for someone to pick it up for you if you can’t make it.  Links to results for the NMORS and NMRS can be found on the home page at nmcycling.org

RSVPs for the awards party will also be helpful.  As we did last year, there will be food and drink provided by NMBRA.  We’ll eat first, then present awards, then socialize till its past our bedtime.

For those who can, a donation of $5.00 is suggested to keep the NMBRA account from taking too large a hit in bringing these events to you.

Hope to see you November 12!

Jennifer and Steve

Update:  Because of the forest closures, the Cedro Peak Challenge race will be held at the Sandia Peak ski area.  More info here: http://mountaintopcycling.com/cedro-race/

Update:  Because of the calcellations, the series will count the top 9 of 14 results for the final standings.

Update:  The forest closure also meant cancelling the Ruidoso event.

Update:  The Forest Service is issuing a closure order in the Lincoln Nat’l Forest and is not allowing the Cloudcroft race to proceed.

If things change, we may look to reschedule the race.

(If it rains and the forest reopens in time, we may go ahead with the event, but that seems unlikely).
